  • Smith's group bought 80% and the Millers kept 20%. The contract lets the buyers purchase the rest over time, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.
  • In August 2022 the Millers sold about 10% to Arctos Sports Partners and one other partner. The price was not disclosed.
  • Smith agreed to honour a Miller family trust that requires the team to stay in Utah. Nothing is pending in 2026.

How the team is run

  • Smith is governor and chairman of SEG, which also owns hockey's Utah Mammoth and the arena. Austin Ainge is team president and Will Hardy is coach.
  • The team is rebuilding. It has missed the playoffs four straight seasons and went 22-60 in 2025-26, worst in the West.
  • The NBA fined the Jazz $500,000 on 12 February 2026 for breaking its player-participation policy. The league said two players held out of close games were fit to play.
  • It had fined the Jazz $100,000 the season before for resting a player. Smith said publicly that the two sides disagree.
  • SEG is rebuilding the Delta Center for $525M, from April 2025 to about October 2027. It is part of a $900M package for the arena and a surrounding district.
